This beach bag is the perfect Beginner plus project. You will practise lots of different techniques as you are making your bag, such as sewing using the seam allowance, hemming, topstitching. Mastering these techniques will give you confidence to use a sewing machine and will also equip you with the basics to start dressmaking.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • Cutting out your fabric, using a paper pattern

  • Following the pattern instructions

  • Making a beach bag

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?

  • The pattern and instructions to make your beach bag.

  • Tea and coffee!

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

  • Supplies to make your beach bag:

    • 1m of fabric, sturdy, medium weight, woven, non stretch: cotton, denim or canvas fabric. OR you may want to use two colours of fabric (see photos), in which case, 0.5m of each colour.

    • 2.5m of webbing (for the straps), 3cm wide.

    • Matching or contrast thread

We will have limited colours of webbing available for you to purchase from us on the day. We can also provide thread for you to use, but advise you to bring your own as no guarantee that we will have the exact colour match for your fabric.

  • A sewing machine in good working order.

Please ensure you bring the foot pedal and the various presser feet that came with the machine and the manual if you have it. Get in touch if you’d like to borrow a sewing machine - I have got one spare per class.

  • A basic sewing kit if you have it, including pins, scissors, tape measure etc. This is not essential as we have equipment you can borrow.

WHO IS THIS CLASS SUITABLE FOR?

This class is Beginner Plus level. You should have some prior knowledge of using a sewing machine, for example you can thread up a machine and know how to sew straight lines following the seam allowance. If you have completed our Complete beginners machine sewing techniques workshop, this is the perfect follow on class. This class is also suitable for people who are looking to get back into sewing but are feeling a bit rusty.
