SEWING cLASS levels

At Dot n Cross we aim to make sewing and pattern cutting accessible to all, regardless of your prior experience. Making something with your own two hands should be celebrated! We have categorised our classes to make it easy for you to chose which one is suitable for you.

COMPLETE BEGINNER

These classes are suitable for people who have never used a sewing machine before. We welcome you with open arms! A word of warning though – sewing your own clothes is highly addictive! Beginner classes are also suitable for people who have sewn before but are a bit rusty.

BEGINNER PLUS

These classes are aimed at sewists who know how to use a sewing machine and sew following the seam allowance. You’ve probably tackled a few sewing projects at home, but want to improve your dressmaking skills and start to understand dress making patterns.

INTERMEDIATE – SEWING WITH STRETCH

You should be comfortable with using a sewing machine and have made quite a few garments at home. You know how to use a pattern, but you are new to sewing with stretch. In these classes we focus on how to sew with stretch fabrics, using a regular sewing machine.

INTERMEDIATE

For people who have made quite a few garments at home. You will have experience making tops and dresses, and want to take a shot at more complicated garments, like trousers and outerwear.

This level is where our pattern cutting classes start, as you’ve already got a good understanding of using patterns, garment construction and pattern terminology.

ADVANCED

Well done for making it this far! In our advanced classes we teach you sewing skills to set you on your way to make shirts, jeans and tailoring.

Pattern cutting classes at this level are a step on from the Introduction to pattern cutting classes at intermediate level, and will include more complicated pattern adjustments and creating patterns from scratch.
