TELL ME MORE
This is a new class designed to be a follow on from our beginners machine sewing class. It is aimed at people that have been sewing a while, but want to elevate their sewing with specialist seam finishes such as French seams and felled seams, or neater ways to finish necklines (other than with a facing), by using binding or inside binding. We will also cover buttonholes using your machine, and pin hemming, and if there’s time we will move on to sewing bound plackets which are used to finish the slit on the cuff of a shirt, and stitching in the ditch which is mostly used on waistbands where you don’t want a row of topstitching. We should have time for at least 5 techniques and will do more if possible.
Mastering these techniques will give you confidence to elevate your sewing from beginner to intermediate, and open up your options to try patterns with more complex construction techniques.
TECHNIQUES YOU WILL LEARN
French seams
Felled seams
Binding a raw edge
Inside binding
Pin hemming
Buttonholes using the buttonhole function on your machine (check your sewing machines instruction booklet that you have a one step buttonhole function).
Sew a bound placket (if there’s time)
Stitch in the ditch (if there’s time)
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?
Everything is included. You will receive the samples pre-cut ready for you to sew in calico.
A folder for your finished samples to live in.
The use of our equipment and sewing machines.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Your own sewing machine if you would like to bring it, however we do provide sewing machines. If you are bringing your machine, ensure you bring the foot pedal and the various presser feet that came with the machine and the manual if you have it.
A basic sewing kit if you have it, including pins, scissors, tape measure etc. This is not essential as we have equipment you can borrow.
WHO IS THIS workshop SUITABLE FOR?
This class is suitable for beginner plus to intermediate sewists who are ready to upskill. We will be demonstrating every technique first and then you will have a go. This class is also suitable for people who are looking to get back into sewing but are feeling a bit rusty.
