TELL ME MORE

In this workshop you will make your own pair of snuggly pyjama bottoms, just in time for Christmas! This pattern is suitable for complete beginners, so even if you’ve never sewn anything in your life, you will walk away with a finished garment. They are wide legged with a generous fit, elasticated waistband and a ribbon or cord tie. You will get the pattern to take home so that you can make them again.

TECHNIQUES YOU WILL LEARN

  • Learn how to use a pattern

  • Check which size to make

  • How to prepare and lay the fabric

  • How to cut correctly

  • Sewing techniques following the seam allowance

  • Learn to finish seam allowance with zig zag

  • Hemming

  • Make an elasticated waistband

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?

  • The pattern, which you can take home and use again

  • Use of all our equipment including brand new sewing machines

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

  • Fabrics and notions are not included in the price – there will be a wide selection of gorgeous fabrics to buy at the start of the class from Stitches & Cream. You will receive a discount of 10% on fabrics that you buy for the course.

  • Matching thread

  • 2.5cm wide Elastic – 1.2m

  • Cord or ribbon – 1.7m

Fabric suggestions:

Light to medium weight woven fabrics are best for the Ultimate Pyjamas. As you will be sleeping in them, we suggest sticking to natural fibres to keep your pyjamas soft and breathable. Think cotton lawn, brushed cotton, cotton fleece, flannel, seersucker, or even a lovely rayon if you’re feeling more adventurous.

Fabric quantities:

Fabric 45”/115cm wide or wider

  • All sizes: 2.5m

Fabric 60”/150cm wide or wider

  • All sizes: 2.5m

It’s a good idea to have pre-washed your fabric so that you know the shrinking is done before you sew a garment. This is especially important for stretch fabrics! Wash the fabric on the temperature you normally wash your clothes, or a bit higher. If you are buying the fabric on the day of the class, you can use our steam iron to pre-shrink the fabric before cutting.

If you have any questions about how much fabric you’ll need, come into the shop or email us and we’ll be able to assist you.

WHO IS THIS CLASS SUITABLE FOR?

This class is a complete beginner level. Even if you have zero experience of using a sewing machine, you are welcome to come along.
