TELL ME MORE

In this two day class, you will make a jumpsuit in a woven fabric. The jumpsuit features either a V neck with cross over back neckline with wide straps, or you could opt for the straight neck, strappy cami style version, with front neck tie. Both options include an elasticated waist for a good fit and straight trouser legs. There are options for customization on this pattern, including trouser length (shorts, full length, or anything in between!), strap detail, and waist tie. This is an intermediate class, you should be comfortable with using a sewing machine and sew following the seam allowance, and have experience sewing other garments following a pattern. We will aim to finish the jumpsuits in the class, but some people may not finish on time, depending on your experience and how fast you sew! You will have a pattern that you can use to make more at home.

TECHNIQUES YOU WILL LEARN

  • Check which size to make

  • How to prepare and lay the fabric

  • How to cut correctly

  • Learn to finish raw edges

  • Learn to sew an elasticated waist

  • Finishing the neck

  • Hemming

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?

  • The pattern, which you can take home and use again

  • Use of all our equipment including brand new sewing machines

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

  • Fabrics and notions are not included in the price – there will be a wide selection of gorgeous fabrics to buy at the start of the class from Stitches & Cream. You will receive a discount of 10% on fabrics that you buy for the course.

  • Matching thread

  • Elastic – 1cm wide X your waist measurement

  • Bias tape – 1/2” wide single fold (for the tie neck style)

  • Interfacing – lightweight (for the neck facing on the cross over neck style)

Fabric suggestions:

Light to medium light weight fabrics such as cotton, chambray, crepe, lightweight linen, poplin, crepe de chine. If you don’t have much sewing experience, I would strongly suggest buying a stable cotton type fabric to sew this in, as a slippery silk will be rather tricky!!

It’s a good idea to have pre-washed your fabric so that you know the shrinking is done before you sew a garment. This is especially important for stretch fabrics! Wash the fabric on the temperature you normally wash your clothes, or a bit higher. If you are buying the fabric on the day of the class, you can use our steam iron to pre-shrink the fabric before cutting.

If you have any questions about how much fabric you’ll need, come into the shop or email us and we’ll be able to assist you.

WHO IS THIS CLASS SUITABLE FOR?
