In this class you will learn how to make a basic jersey dress. We will be sewing everything on a normal sewing machine (not on an overlocker) so that you’ll be able to make another one at home on your normal sewing machine. The dress has set in sleeves, with the option of a regular boat neck, or a funnel collar, and you can add optional pockets and cuff bands. The pattern can also be made as a top, making it a really versatile pattern to have in your collection. As stretchy fabrics can sometimes be a little tricky to work with, you should have made a few garments before and be familiar with using a pattern as we wont be covering that in this lesson.

Fabrics and notions are not included in the price – there will be a wide selection of gorgeous fabrics to buy at the start of the class from Stitches & Cream. You will receive a discount of 10% on fabrics that you buy for the course.

Fabric suggestions:
Medium weight knit fabrics with a little stretch. Ponte di roma, double knit and medium weight jersey are all good options. Make sure the jersey is thick enough to make a dress from (eg. Its not see through!)
Fabric quantities:
Fabric 45”/115cm wide or wider
Dress with funnel neck and cuffs: All sizes = 3m
Plain dress: All sizes = 2.7m
Fabric 55”/150cm wide or wider
Dress with funnel neck and cuffs: All sizes = 2.3m
Plain dress: All sizes = 2m
WHO IS THIS CLASS SUITABLE FOR?
This class is an intermediate – sewing with stretch level. You should be comfortable with using a sewing machine and have made quite a few garments at home. You know how to use a pattern, but you are new to sewing with stretch. In these classes we focus on how to sew with stretch fabrics, using a regular sewing machine.
ABOUT YOUR TEACHER
Helen is a pattern cutter who has worked in the fashion industry in London for 10 years. She has cut patterns for several high-end designer brands, including Victoria Beckham, Mary Katrantzou and Karen Millen. She loves sharing the knowledge she has gained over the years with others, to help them on their sewing journey. Whether they are taking their first steps into the fashion industry, or improving their home sewing techniques.
